👋 Nice to meet you!
i'm Alice, a product designer who turn business problems into user-centric solutions.
Product Design Were the Words on the Tip of My Tongue for Years
My journey in design began a decade ago with crafting customized birthday cards for loved ones.
My interest in design, combined with my mom's experience in market research, led me to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing at the University of British Columbia.
As a marketer, my goal was to listen to people's problems and recommend solutions through well-designed marketing campaigns.
Meeting Product Design
For years, I thought Marketing was the best fit for me. That was until I met UX design through my university’s entrepreneurship course.
Suddenly, everything clicked—product design not only contains what I enjoyed about marketing but also includes direct involvement in the solution-creation process!
Making the Pivot
When I returned to L'Oréal Canada the following summer, I advocated for a design role and worked on an experience design project for Vichy's Dercos haircare line.
To fully invest in product design, I took a gap semester from university to obtain a BrainStation UX design diploma. Despite working 12-hour days to complete the diploma, I loved it! My dedication and performance led to a teaching assistant offer.
Working as a Full-Time Designer
Currently, I work at AutoVerify, where I enhance the vehicle capture process, streamline data workflows, and establish effective design processes, all while leveraging my business background as a strength.
I’ve received over 20 shoutouts for my creative problem-solving, strategic design skills, quick learning, strong work ethic, and cross-functional collaboration, with many noting that I operate at a level beyond my experience.
Continue to Grow!
In addition to my full-time job, I freelance as a designer, blending my business and design backgrounds to help founders realize their visions. I love seeing their joy when I present designs that resonate with them and their target audiences. These projects fuel my creativity and demonstrate the impact of design on business success.
Recently, I explored 3D design by creating a bug catcher after repeatedly "prototyping" one with materials I found whenever I encountered a bug!
Outside of Work
My passion for data-informed decision-making also shapes my personal life. Starting in January 2024, I began using a habit tracker I created in Google Forms/ Sheet to log daily habits like stepping out of my comfort zone, exercising, and learning. Each week, I analyze my data, reflect and set new goals.
In line with stepping outside my comfort zone, I recently started learning tumbling and returned to acting after a five-year break!
